The comment above me had the right choice of words when describing Lotusland. A hidden gem, truly. I haven't seen much publication for this place but it should be highly recommended to anyone interested in having a pleasant afternoon learning and experiencing the beauties of nature. I was there a few months ago and loved every minute of it. Do they make updates pertaining types of flowers or gardens they have?? I need to get back since it's finally spring time! A great place to stay while in town is the South Coast Inn (www.santa-barbara-hotel.com). Tasteful and posh in every way!

What a pretty blog! Nice pictures of things around SB as well! I really enjoyed them. I always seem to misplace my camera when I most need it (like when touring the mission and courthouse)! Always such a shame, thankfully I have my memories and multiple photos others have taken while in Santa Barbara! The courthouse is a beautiful place and many take it for granted, especially locals at how this place of justice is just so beautiful. Many courthouses are bland looking and are there to just serve their purpose. I feel Santa Barbara's does so much more then just serve the people. Regardless, it is one of the many places I always come back to whenever I am in town. I'm glad it is close to downtown too, easy to get too! My favorite place to stay while in town-the Sandman Inn (www.thesandmaninn.com) is close by and beyond affordable, making my trip that much better.

Lotusland is a beautiful place to visit when in Santa Barbara. I've always enjoyed floral settings so this was the utopia for me. Especially in Montecito, so nice! Beautiful gardens from all over the world, so well maintained and just a peaceful place to be. The Botanical Gardens is always really nice to go as well if you are interested in this kind of activity. I'm so glad my hotel recommended it to me a few years ago-the Sandman Inn (www.thesandmaninn.com). Affordable and incredibly helpful!

I think living in New York would change anyone. The culture there is different so therefore you need to adapt. I sometime feel security issues when am there, but you are right about creating that balance. Hard at first but you live and learn.

Yeah and they will lie to you at the counter about what insurance covers what. Don't depend on them to tell you. You hafta call your own insurance guy first and get the real scoop. I didn't know they credit card company was one to ask too? Next time will call them also.

That's a scary thought, having your child or another family member sick when you travel. We were driving cross-country once and our daughter got very sick. We had to visit a local emergency room, and had to stop and stay in hotel when we didn't expect to, and I wish we'd had the records you mentioned. I never even thought of it before it happened. And I can't imagine it happening overseas though, that would be even worse!

These festivals are very interesting. And I'm glad that you also mentioned the professional sports games that can give a bit different but equally exciting experience for someone who visits Edmonton. I suppose hockey should get a special mention here since Canadian people tend to be crazy about hockey. So seeing Edmonton Oilers play on their home ice is a good way for a tourist to experience something very Canadian.
